Canon 5D Mark II Video Setup

เขียนโดย Eva | 08:45

Stuff I threw together for a portable video solution and still get quality pans and sound. Very inexpensive setup for the quality of video and audio. Especially with crazy DOF options. The FD lens adapter gives more control with Aperature settings on the Mark II and also options to buy some really high quality lenses for dirt cheap.

Buy DX Lenses - Review to Buy Nikon DX Lenses & Check Compatibility With Digital Cameras

เขียนโดย Eva | 08:25

Buy DX lenses manufactured by Nikon after reviewing its compatibility factors. These lenses are primarily used to cover the smaller sensor of DX digital cameras. Although there are other high end regular lenses, but these are of special mention as well.

These lenses work well with FX cameras. They are also used on film or full-frame sensors that usually blacks out around the corners. FX cameras do have the feature of using smaller area in the center of their large sensors, which makes a DX lense more compatible with it. Although AF and metering compatibility varies from model to model, it's a known fact that all Nikon lenses perform superb on digital cameras optically.

It's true that all Nikon SLRs digital cameras use the famous Nikkor lenses for years, but the exclusive reason why DX ones are so popular is because of the available extra short focal lengths. This in turn helps all DX cameras to get wider lense views. Since these accessory is also known as G lense minus the aperture rings, they are not compatible with manual focus cameras. They are easily mountable on any Nikon and so to say are ideal particularly for DX digital cameras. All FX cameras that cut their sensors short do find good use for these lenses.

You can also shoot with the 10.5mm DX fisheye on FX camera or film in full-frame mode to see unexpected results. But before you do that I recommend you to set up a D3 properly to correct the center portion. Nikon DX format is here to stay for a long time in case of practically priced cameras.

How to Keep the Excess Weight Off

เขียนโดย Eva | 07:45

Have you ever been on a diet and tried to lose weight and failed? Or have you been on a diet and were successful in losing the weight, but unsuccessful in keeping it off? The reason may be your addiction to certain types of foods. Addictions to food, or any other substance for that matter, can cause intense cravings, especially if you are stressed. Addictions can also be the cause of withdrawals if you go without the food or substance to which you are addicted. The discomfort caused by the food cravings and withdrawals is so bad that many people fail when attempting to eat less food or eat healthier food.

The typical American diet is made up of fried foods, sugar-rich foods, soft drinks and other foods which stimulate the production of toxins. After eating or drinking these unhealthy foods, the body goes through a detoxification process in order to remove these toxins. Detoxification is not a pleasant process for the body. It can cause both physical and emotional discomfort. In an effort to stop the discomfort, most people will eat again--because as long as the digestive system is working, the detoxification process is delayed.

So, how do we break this cycle? Here are a few suggestions--

Eat high anti-oxidant foods such as beans, fresh vegetables, nuts, seeds and berries. These foods will help reduce the effects of detoxification and will also make it easier for the liver to eliminate the chemicals which are produced during digestion. These chemicals intensify the discomfort between meals.

Eat more, not less--just make sure it's more of the healthy, anti-oxidant foods that are mentioned above. Try to eat at least two to three servings per meal of the healthy foods so that your stomach will be full and you will feel satisfied. You'll also feel full longer than if you had eaten junk food.

Cut back on caffeine. Sometimes people who are trying to lose weight end up consuming beverages that contain a lot of caffeine. This may help temporarily, but when the caffeine wears off, they will have a craving for caffeine as well as food.

Socialize more. Yes, an active social life can help you lose weight. The pleasure you derive from being around friends and other people will help you experience self-confidence and pleasure--feelings that some people get from eating. So, instead of staying home and eating, go out and have some fun with friends.

What You Need to Look For When Shopping For New Camera Lenses

เขียนโดย Eva | 07:15

For the beginning photographer with a point and shoot camera, the choice of camera lenses is often not an issue. This is because the average digital or film camera does not permit the photographer to change the lenses that they are using. However once someone has begun to delve more seriously into photography they may choose a camera where interchanging lenses is a possibility. Then, picking the right lens for the shot that you are trying to get becomes an important consideration.

There is a large difference between the popular point and shoot camera which has a fixed lens and a single lens reflex or SLR camera. This second type of camera is much more expensive because it has high performance features intended for a serious photographer. With any lens, the image is formed when light is allowed in through the end of the lens. That light then either strikes a digital sensor or a film plane. There are many excellent film based SLR models on the market but these are rapidly being overtaken by digital cameras.

If you will be doing a lot of shooting you will want to invest in specialized lenses over time. However, your average shooter requires just one lens to get them started. For regular shooting conditions, you want one with a focal length of between 35 and 70 mm.

There are a few things which make this lens more generalized than others. The first is that the focal length generally does not cause much if any image distortion which can be great for standard, posed photographs in regular conditions. The second is that it allows you to shoot in a wider range of light conditions than some of the other lenses.

Many people find that they love shooting birds or wildlife. If you are shooting these kinds of subjects you need to look into purchasing equipment which can handle fast movement and shooting over longer distances than other subjects. The same choice that you purchase for animals will also work very well for sporting events. Look for a focal length that starts at about one hundred and fifty millimeters and goes to more than three hundred millimeters.

The fact that you can take a picture very quickly with the above length of focus is important when shooting sports or wildlife. There is often a lot of action in these pictures so being able to snap pictures fast is important. However you may find that shooting with this focal length may mean that you do not get a wide view of the terrain around you.

If you want to shoot images of things like buildings you may want a wide angle lens. Buildings may call for a very small focal length and landscapes can have a longer focal length. This is because you want to get a lot of the scenery in but not get a lot of distortion. The balance between perspective and the amount of an image you can capture with a lens has been a bit of a balancing act for many years.

Once you start collecting camera lenses you may find it difficult to stop. However, despite the fun things you can do with your collection you will often find that there is one to which you return time and time again.

Using Canon Lenses For Christmas Portraits

เขียนโดย Eva | 06:50

It's Christmas time once again and what gear would be perfect for our Christmas portraits and candid shots during all the festivities? If you know the basics of photography more or less you will be able to identify what your really need. But first of all, I can honestly say that for portraiture you will need an external flash. Something that may be equally helpful is a bounce card or a stofen to difuse and/or enhance the lighting that you want. If your camera has a built in flash, remember that built in flashes cannot be compared to external flashes. Bear in mind that with taking portraits, built in flashes can be limiting.

What lens should you go for? Always think about the range that you want and your budget as well. For prime lenses, the budget friendly Canon 50mm f/1.8 is an ok choice.

This is a good choice for beginners. The opening is wide enough (you'll have a shallower depth of field thus resulting in a more blurred background) and it's pretty fast considering its cost. But if you have the budget you can go for the Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM. Another wonderful (though a bit expensive) prime lens is the Canon 35mm f/1.4L. The problem with prime lenses is that your range is limited for obvious reasons and always consider the range that you want.

For zoom lenses, you can opt for the Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L . In my personal opinion, this is a good range for portraits. You can also go with the 70-200mm f/4.0L IS or the 70-200mm f/2.8L for a longer range (if you have room, this can be great for candids). For low light and indoor use, a wide opening such as the f/2.8 or wider will be perfect.

Five Unusual Uses For Ice Cubes

เขียนโดย Eva | 05:26

Ice cubes are merely frozen lumps of liquid. Most of the time we use ice cubes to cool off our drinks. But did you know that there are other uses for ice cubes? We're going to explore a few of them.

Water hanging plants. If you have a few potted plants hanging on your patio or back porch, watering them can be a bit tricky. To simplify the task, just drop a half dozen of ice cubes onto the surface of the soil daily. Because the ice melts slowly, the soil has time to absorb the moisture as needed, without the risk of messy overflow.

Revive your garbage disposal. If your garbage disposal has been sluggish lately or your sink drain has been getting clogged more than usual, your garbage disposal may not be running as smoothly as it should be. To revive the disposal, toss in 3 to 4 ice cubes and power up the disposal for about 30 seconds. The grinding of the ice cubes will help sharpen the blades of the disposal as well as dislodge grease and stuck-on food that can slow down the disposal. If you want to deodorize the garbage disposal, make the ice cubes out of white vinegar. White vinegar will help kill odor-causing bacteria.

Ensure reheated rice stays moist. If you've ever tried to warm up leftover rice in a microwave, it usually comes out nice and crunchy. To fix that, add an ice cube to the rice and cover with a lid. Heat the rice on high for 2 to 3 minutes. The steam created by the evaporating ice should infuse the rice grains with enough moisture so that it will come out with a light and fluffy texture.

Get rid of unsightly carpet dents. If you have acquired new furniture or just moved your existing furniture around, you may have some unsightly dents in your carpet. To get rid of the dents, place an ice cube on each one right before you go to bed. As the ice melts, the water will gradually sink into the fibers of the fabric and plump them back up before morning.

Clean a scorched coffeepot. How many times have you or somebody else at the office forgot to turn the burner off of the coffeepot which eventually leaves a scorched, burned mess in the bottom of the coffeepot? To remedy this, fill the coffeepot halfway with ice, add 1/4 cup of salt and swish vigorously. The abrasive salt and ice will create friction that should dislodge the burned-on stains.

Canon Powershot SX1 and SX200 Digital Camera Review

เขียนโดย Eva | 05:16

The photography industry is ramping up for the year's biggest event. It is the annual PMA (Photography Manufacturers' Association) trade show in Las Vegas. If I could pick a vacation spot next month as an amateur photographer, it would be PMA. This year, Canon has announced two new entries in the mid-level compact camera market. Actually, there are many new products by Canon and others, but this article will deal with two. The Powershot SX1 IS and Powershot SX200 IS are packed with improvements and new features that will make photographers at all levels, from rank amateurs to professionals, take a long look.

The Canon Powershot SX1 IS is an upgrade of the SX10, and it has actually already hit the camera market, but it has not yet been offered in the US. In spite of being an upgrade, it is a prosumer model with features like none before it. It is the first non-DSLR to have the CMOS sensor that is included in the DSLR professional models. The ISO range of the SX1 goes from 80 to 1600 with only slight image deterioration at the high end. Here are some of the other specs:

10 megapixels
Variable position 2.7" LCD
20x Optical Zoom (28mm to 560mm)
Hotshoe (for external flash)
DIGIC 4 processor
1080p HD video records at 30fps
Suggested Retail Price $599

Video recording on this camera is as good as a dedicated video camera. It can be played back on a HD television with great clarity. For the amateur photographer who is looking for a professional look, with video capabilities, but does not want the hassel of carrying equipment and switching lenses, this may be the one for you. It could also be the "carry everywhere" camera for professionals. The second of the two SX models offered in March is the Canon Powershot SX200 IS. This is a truly compact camera with amazing power and flexibility. It will capture close-up at 28mm and zoom to 12x (336mm). It is sleek and good-looking, coming in 3 designer colors, black, blue, and cranberry. This new digital camera has an array of controls and options to give the user as much or as little control over the outcome as desired. Some of the notable specs are:

12.1 megapixels
12x Zoom (28-336 mm equivalent)
Digic 4 processor
Optical image stabilization to reduce camera blur
720p HD video
ISO up to 3200
3" LCD
Suggested Retail Price $349

The Canon Powershot SX200 IS is a little package with a powerful punch. It is a great camera for outings or vactions. It can be carried anywhere because it is a true compact, yet has the capablility to take large enough pictures to easily print at 8 x10 and much larger. It will capture HD video as good as a dedicated camcorder. It will most undoubtedly put Canon at the top of their game once again.

Canon EF Lenses

เขียนโดย Eva | 05:11

Canon's Lens lineup may be a little daunting for any new SLR or DSLR camera owner. The primary reason for this is probably the fact that Canon offers more than 60 interchangeable lenses for its series of SLR and DSLR cameras. This lens line-up includes Primes, Zooms, Tilt & Shifts, Macros, Wide Lenses, Telephoto Lenses and Super Telephoto Lenses.

Although Canon manufactures many types of lenses, it's EF lineup is the most popular as these lenses with the EF mount fit all of Canon's SLR and DSLR cameras. In addition to this, Canon also manufactures the EF-S lens lineup that fits on Canon's range of consumer cameras with APS-C CMOS sensors such as the Rebel series. The EF-S lenses can only be used on the APS-C cameras, but these cameras can also use the normal EF Lenses. Every Canon EF lens can be classified in one of the following classes:

Prime (fixed) lenses

Ultra Wide - Primes usually with a focal length of 20mm or less such as the EF14mm f/2.8L II USM. Used primarily for landscapes.
Wide - Primes between 20 and 50mm like the EF35mm f/1.4L USM. Used primarily for landscapes.
Standard & Medium Telephoto - Primes between 50 and 100mm like the brilliant EF85mm F1.2L II USM. Great for portraits.
Telephoto - Primes between 100 and 300mm like the EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM. Usually used for wildlife and sports photography.
Super Telephoto - Primes of 400mm and more like the EF600mm f/4L IS USM, Used for Bird, sports & wildlife photography.

Zoom (adjustable) Lenses

Wide Zoom - Zooms that start between 16 and 22mm of focal length like the EF17-40mm f/4L USM. Useful for landscapes & Weddings.
Standard Zoom - Zooms that start between 24 and 28mm on the wide end and a reach between 70 and 200mm, like the EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM. Useful for Weddings & Portraits.
Telephoto Zoom - Zooms that start at 28mm at the wide end with a reach of between 70 and 300mm, like the popular EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM. Used for a wide variety of applications such as weddings, wildlife, bird & street photography.

EF-S Lenses
Lenses with a special mount that can only be used with Canon's APS-C sensor cameras, such as the Rebel series. Cameras with the APS-C sensore has a 1.6x multiplying effect on normal EF lenses, therefore the need for lenses like the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM which is useful for landscape photography with the Rebel series.

Macro Lenses
Lenses used for macro photography, such as the EF180mm f/3.5L Macro USM.

Tilt & Shift Lenses
Lenses like the TS-E24mm f/3.5L are primarily used for architecture photography. In each of the classes listed above, except for the EF-S class, special high quality "L" lenses can be found. These lenses are made of special materials, are usually weather proof, heavy and produce images of stunning sharpness and quality.

Nikon SLR Digital Camera Pros & Cons

เขียนโดย Eva | 05:01

I knew that i needed a new camera when I reached the point of couldn't getting more from the point-and-shoot Canon PowerShot devices that i have been using for six years now. I took a lot of pictures, because they're handy and portable and I always had my camera with me, but I started experiencing problems like poor performance at low-light settings and delay between shots.

Even though I like my compact Canon, for a DSLR I narrowed my choices to the Nikon D60 or the Sony A300. I eventually chose the D60 and I ordered it from Amazon. Profiting of their 30-day price match policy, I got some of my money back. Because the price of the Nikon D60 has gone down a few times and they were fast to refund the difference from what I initially paid. But keep in mind that Amazon doesn't warn you when the price changes, it's up to you to follow for 30 days if it drops.

Why I chose the Nikon over the Sony is simple: it's less heavy and compact, making it easier to carry; also, the LCD menu is intuitive and clear and, of course, because Nikon is well-respected for the fine lenses it produces, and in a DSLR it's really about which line you want to follow in purchasing lenses in the future.

Even though the camera doesn't fit in my pocket like I used to carry my point-and-shoot devices, it's still pretty comfortable to have with you. Thanks to kit lens' VR (vibration reduction) and its neat balance with the camera's compact body, the weight of the lens won't point it down.

Another great thing is that the camera is pretty efficient in low-light settings. You can even beat the flash, and in my opinion you can get better quality pictures this way. Still, the flash has a more even coverage than that of a compact camera and is also more powerful. The manual explains all you need to know about what this camera has, but you won't find a thorough guide for DSLRs.

One thing you should know about this camera is that auto-focus only works with Nikon AF-S lenses. So you'll have to manually focus when using most Nikon "prime" lenses. It also lacks live preview. You only see your picture on the LCD screen after you've pushed the button.

But I'm pleased with my decision and I warmly recommend the Nikon for anyone who wants to try a DSLR camera.

The Best & Worst Digital Camera Telephoto Lenses of 2009

เขียนโดย Eva | 04:51

Before showering praise or criticism on any specific telephoto lens, it may be worthwhile to expel a few words on exactly what a camera telephoto lens is, and what it does.

In a nutshell, a telephoto lens brings the subject targeted by the photographer, closer to that said photographer. And as a result, produces a still photograph or video for any subsequent viewers that is larger, more detailed and exhibits greater clarity then could have been achieved without the benefit of an additional lens. A somewhat more technical definition would be a lens that is built from a rather long focal length lens, but where the actual tangible length of this lens is less than the desired focal length. That is not to suggest, that every lens with a longer focal length than normal is a true telephoto lens. A true telephoto lens will contain a combination of rear lenses ofter referred to as the telephoto group.

There are a few points to consider when buying a digital camera telephoto lens.

It's important to know what camera or cameras, you intend to use the lens with. Different makes, models, and manufacturers often have their own lens mounting systems. Some maybe simple screw lenses, while others may have more elaborate mounting mechanisms.

Consider the subject environment you will be shooting in. While telephoto lens lend themselves to specific types of subjects, such as sporting events, wildlife photography, surveillance work and landscape vistas, that's not to suggest that they aren't also used for fashion or wedding photography.

If you never used a zoom lens much in the past, then sales staff can be an invaluable resource. They handle this type of equipment on a daily basis, are often more than will to share their opinions. They may be somewhat biased, especially if their working on commission, so be sure to take what they say with a grain of salt. A good source of unbiased information can be found online. The more reputable online sites like Amazon, contain tons of real users who often share their product experience in online reviews.

Reading manuals for the specific models can be helpful as well. Most manufacturers these days, place their product manuals online in PDF form. If you Google around a bit online, you should be able to find the manual of the product your looking for.

Now speaking of the better lens I and a number of happy customers would recommend are:

Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
This lens is great for anyone who wants to try out a L-series lens in the 10-200 mm focal length range, and not spend a whole ton of money. At the time of writing this, I'm finding this lens for under $600. Additionally, if your tired of hauling around the much heavier 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, this may be a better lens for you. Remember, this lens doesn't include IS, so that may or may not be a deal breaker for you.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

If money is less important than the quality of your photographs, then it may be time to step up to this lens. It goes for around $1700 new, or a couple hundred less used. It does however include image stabilization, which is important if a tripod is not an option for your photo shoots.

Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

Some of the things to really like about this lens, include the remarkable sharpness and clarity. An auto focus that is both darn near silent, and fast. Also included is a dual image stabilization system. It is on the downside of course a heavy lens, which I'm sure your well aware of, if you've been doing your research with other telephoto lenses in this category.
